Feedalizr

FAQ

1.Can I use feedalizr on Linux?
Yes, you can. Feedalizr needs Adobe AIR to run on your desktop. Adobe has not released a final version of AIR for Linux yet, but an alpha version is available. An alpha version means that the software may contain some errors, and it is not entirely feature complete. Basically alpha software is experimental. Installing the alpha version of AIR on your Linux system will not harm your system. You can find Adobe AIR for Linux here. You must install it manually on Linux (the installation button on the feedalizr website does not work for Linux). Once you have installed it, you will be able to run feedalizr on your Linux box. There are some issues with feedalizr on Linux, due to AIR being an alpha release. First of all (and most annoyingly) you will find that feedalizr will not remember your settings - you have to type in your username and remote key every time you log in. Secondly - you must have a compositing windows manager (such as Beryl or Compiz-Fusion) installed to get the full transparency effects. For more information see Adobe's release notes here
2.Why don’t my credentials get saved on Linux?
This is because AIR for Linux is in alpha. See the previous question. You can read more about the issue here.
3.When I click on a url in feedalizr, on Vista, it opens up in IE, even though Firefox is my default browser. How can I fix this?
This problem appears on Windows Vista. To workaround this problem, go to Start > Default Programs > Set Program Access and Computer Defaults, expand Custom, select the radio button next to the application you want to set as the system-wide default browser (for example, Mozilla Firefox) and apply the setting.
4.Why do posts flickr, twitter and other posts from Friendfeed sometimes take a while to show up in feedalizr?
When you use feedalizr to post to Flickr, Twitter, Jaiku or another service, feedalizr sends your post directly to that service. Feedalizr does not, however, look for new posts directly on these services. Instead feedalizr displays the new posts that it finds on Friendfeed. This means that every post you make has a long way to travel before it gets back to feedalizr. Your post first goes to the original service, for example twitter. Friendfeed scans twitter for new posts at regular intervals, but these intervals may vary. Only once Friendfeed has found the new post on twitter, will it be displayed on feedalizr. This delay, or latency, between you creating the post on twitter and Friendfeed picking up the post from Twitter, explains why you may experience a delay before seeing your post.
5.Why do my updates sometimes seem a little slow?
Sometimes there is latency between Feedalizr and the service which you are posting to or following friends on. Unfortunately this is beyond Feedalizr’s control .
6.How do I open a friend's tab?
This is really easy. Simply click on your friend's avatar. The avatar is the little picture that appears next to your friend's name on each of their posts. This will immediately open a new tab. You can close the tab by hovering your mouse over the tab, and clicking the cross.
7.Why do I see other people’s entries in my feed, even though they’re not in my friends list?
This is because feedalizr not only shows you your friend's posts, but also the things they have liked and commented on. For example - if your friend comments on PersonX, who is not your friend, then PersonX's post will appear in your feed, because your friend commented on their post. This is a great way to find new, interesting people to follow on Friendfeed.
8.What is AIR?
The best place to get the answer is here. The answer that Adobe gives to this question is: "Adobe AIR is a cross-operating system runtime that lets developers combine HTML, Ajax, Adobe Flash®, and Flex technologies to deploy rich Internet applications (RIAs) on the desktop.
