The ‘Hot’ release

Gigantic strides have been made in the past week. The feedalizr team have been hard at work on the little things that make feedalizr stand out, head and shoulders, from other social media aggregation tools. Firstly we have added a Twitter Hot Topics bar. This great discovery tool displays the ten hottest topics on twitter in a scrolling ticker across the bottom of your feedalizr application. If you are curious like we are, we encourage you to click on a ‘Hot Topic’ and you’ll see what the greater twitter community are saying, feeling, tweeting and linking to.

feedalizr 1 – freezing bug 0

We are so confident that we have fixed the freezing bug (when you try to type something and feedalizr freezes momentarily) that we are all willing to eat our collective hats if anyone experiences this again. Scrolling is far smoother and whizzing through your entries should now be a breeze.

Feedalizr has been approved by the Adobe QA team and is now available for download and review on the Adobe® AIR™ Marketplace.

It is time to take the ‘Hot’ new version 2.1.3 for a spin, so tweet, update your status, upload a photo, share a link, ‘like’ something, record a video and let us know how it goes. You can follow @feedalizr on twitter , join our room on friendfeed,  become a fan on facebook or write to us on get satisfaction.

Getting up and running with Facebook status updates

feedalizr facebook icon hoghlighted
Some feedalizr users are experiencing problems adding our latest service, Facebook. So we’d like to make it a little simpler with a few hot tips:

  1. Click on the Facebook icon at the top of your feedalizr tool
  2. Click on ‘Get one-time password
    • This will open up a browser window.
    • Facebook will prompt you to log in if you aren’t already logged in.
    • Once you’ve logged into Facebook, you need to click on ‘Generate one-time password’.
  3. It is VERY important that you don’t click away, open any other apps while Facebook is busy generating your one-time password. This may take a short while.
  4. As soon as you see the one-time password displayed you need to copy and paste it directly into the allocated box on feedalizr (see step 2)
  5. Click on ‘Complete Authorisation.’
  6. You will notice that the ‘Grant permission’ button will change colour from grey to white. This means that feedalizr is now ready to complete the Facebook authorization process. Click on ‘Grant permission’ and you’re done.

We hope this helps you to get Facebook status updates up and running on feedalizr. Try it out, you might just be missing out on something really important.

Thanks for your feedback, please keep it coming. Follow @feedalizr on twitter or write to us on get satisfaction.

Beta 2.1.2

The feedalizr team thought long and hard about what would be the next service to add, one that you just couldn’t live without, and it was a unanimous decision to add Facebook. We’d like to think that we’ve made your desktop a little less cluttered, one less browser window open and will keep you more in the loop with your social circle.

Another problem that we have really tried to tackle in the launch is the ‘freezing’ bug. Some users experienced this problem when trying to interact with feedalizr. We have made some changes, which will alleviate this problem; you should no longer have to pause while tweeting, liking or commenting.

Visit our change log for details on the changes in this release and let us know what you think by sending us feedback at get satisfaction and you can find us on twitter.

More importantly tell your friends about us, we’d like to make their lives easier too!

Beta 2.1.1

After an amazing launch of feedalizr beta 2.1 yesterday, the whole team was on such a roll we didn’t want to stop there. We have already included some changes from feedback received and bundled it into a new release not even 24 hours later.

We have added the ability to reply to tweets you see in Friendfeed posts.

The majority of the enhancements have been made to scrolling. The scroll speed has been increased. Your scrolling position is ‘remembered’ when you toggle between tabs and you are now able to use the page down and page up scrolling if you prefer this from the using the scrolling wheel on your mouse.

Once again you will find people included in your stream who comment and like your friends’ posts.

For a full list of enhancements go to the change log and don’t forget to keep sending us your feedback on get satisfaction and you can find us on twitter.

Have a great weekend

Beta release 2.1

It has been a while since the last release and we have been super busy re-architecting feedalizr from the ground up. There are some exciting big changes coming in beta version 2.1. The biggest enhancement is that we offer you full client support for Twitter, Flickr and Jaiku. You no longer need a Friendfeed account to use feedalizr.

Full client support for Twitter means that you can now use Feedalizr as a Twitter client on your desktop enabling you to do tweets, direct messages and favourite tweets. This also means that when you like or comment on one of your friend’s pics in their Flickr feed on feedalizr it means that this info is reflected instantaneously on the page on Flickr and not just in Friendfeed.

Take a look at the new look for feedalizr.

Feedalizr

The toasters now scroll horizontally instead of popping up in a list, which gives you more space on your desktop.

Toaster

Another great feature we’ve added is de-duping. Sometimes you will see an entry on your main feed which says duplicate Twitter entry. This means that we are saving you time by not showing you the Twitter entry twice, i.e. once in the Twitter stream and then again on your friends’ Friendfeed stream. Feedalizr will not show you duplicate entries for Twitter, Flickr and Jaiku. How great is that?

Duplication

feedalizr beta 2.1 enables you to view your entire history instead of just the last 30 posts.

We have also made stellar performance improvements and addressed some legacy CPU issues which some users had previously reported when using beta version 2.0.1 of feedalizr.

One important thing to note is that Adobe Air 1.1 is unfortunately not supported for Linux yet, so these users should keep using beta version 2.0.1 for now.

For the full list of new features and changes take a look at the changelog. Please let us know what you think of feedalizr beta 2.1, you can find us on twitter or get satisfaction.

Thanks for your support and we look forward to hearing from you.

First Beta!

We have decided to move feedalizr out of Alpha release, into Beta. We made the decision because we are satisfied that the feature set is rich enough to warrant a Beta release, and because we have enough users (thanks to all of you!) to make it important that we give you a more “formal” version. You can continue to expect us to react quickly to your change requests and bug reports, and we promise to keep improving the feature set.

On to the good stuff….what’s new in feedalizr 2.0.0 Beta ???

Quite a bit, actually. First of all - we have support for FriendFeed rooms. Yes - you will now receive messages that have been sent to a room directly in feedalizr, and you can post directly to a room. Want a private conversation? Now you can have it, on your desktop, courtesy of feedalizr. If you want to know more about rooms, visit FriendFeed for a full explanation.
This is what a post looks like when it has been posted to a room:

The other, really cool feature, is additional tab support. Want to see only Twitter messages in a tab ? Easy. Find any post that has been made to the service you want to isolate. In the post, hover your mouse pointer over the service icon. If you click the service icon, a new tab will open show all posts for that service. If you click the avatar, a tab will open showing all posts the specific user made to that service! The image below shows you how to do it.

We have extended Twitter support. You can now reply directly to a Twitter user by clicking the “direct” link below a twitter post. Of course, it has always been possible to send direct messages, but we’ve made it easier to do. The links are highlighted in the image.

We’ve made a couple of other small changes and improvements. You can always refer to the changelog for detailed information.

Let us know how the first feedalizr beta is working for you, and PLEASE send us your suggestions and requests. We are on twitter, too.

Thanks for the support everyone! The feedalizr team.

Got you tabbed dude

Version 1.1.4 brings a major new innovation to feedalizr, in the form of tabs. To see tabs in action, just click on the avatar of any of the friends you are subscribed to. A new tab will open, showing only the posts by that person. You can close the tab by clicking the close button on the tab, or by simply clicking on the tab with the middle button of your mouse (yes, we love Firefox).
Tabs provide an easy way to view the posts of an individual user, while still having access to the feeds from all your other friends in the same window. But more than that - tabs lets you see the 30 most recent posts for an individual user - this means you can more easily track conversations over time.

Tabs always stay synchronised with the main feed - whenever a new entry is posted, the relevant tab will immediately be updated with the new entry. You do not have to worry about whether you already have a tab opened for a particular user - if a tab for a user is open already, feedalizr will simply put the focus onto the already open tab if you click on the user’s icon.

In addition to tabs - the features keep coming ;) - we have extended our integration with Flickr.

You can now capture images directly from your web cam to flickr, using feedalizr!

Simply click the flickr icon, press start camera, press snap, and you are done - the picture can be uploaded straight to your Flickr account ! No doubt your imagination will supply endless uses for this ;)

We look forward to getting your feedback! Subscribe to us on twitter, and follow us on feedalizr. Have fun!

More info, more sizes - version 1.1.3 arrives

The latest release of feedalizr adds the single most requested feature - resizing. Go ahead - try it ;)

New in this release are tooltips - simply hover the mouse pointer over a button or icon to get more information.

We have implemented a number of hidden improvements - if your connection to the service is dropped, feedalizr will automatically re-establish the connection. Memory and resource consumption has once again been improved in this release - feedalizr runs leaner and meaner than ever.
For the technically minded - because feedalizr is pure ActionScript, and not a “wrapped website” we have been able to continuously improve memory management and CPU utilisation by optimising the feedalizr code.

And finally - this is the bit we like best - hover you mouse over a user’s icon, and information about that user’s services and subscriptions will appear. Of course everything is clickable. This feature makes it much easier to discover interesting feeds, and to pinpoint the services your friends use. This is what it looks like.

Enjoy - and as always, give us your feedback, and keep up to date with what we are doing.

A quick release!

Just a quick note - we did an emergency release of feedalizr - version 1.1.2 alpha. The reason was that we found a bug that occurred on some Apple hardware … we will follow up with a post detailing the issue, but for now - rest assured that you can continue to use feedalizr!

In response to you…

We’ve been getting a lot of positive feedback from our users - here are a couple of the blog posts we really liked - thank girls and guys!

Corvida of shegeek spotted us early, and stayed with us.
Orli of Go2Web2.0 had this to say, and The Inquisitr and downloadsquad added to our joy :)

This release of feedalizr is particularly focused on addressing some of the issue our users pointed out to us, and of course adding a few new features. We have added comment folding - only the first few comments will now be displayed. You can now also select comments and text. Imaginary friends are displayed correctly in this version. Have a look at the changelog page for the details of the fixes and improvements we have made.

Of course we have added some new features in this release - if you are fortunate enough to have a Jaiku account, you can now post directly to Jaiku from the feedalizr interface.

We will be adding a significant number of new features in the next few releases - look out for support for even more services, as well as an improved and extended user interface - we will make it possible for you to be more interactive, and to manage your feeds in the most effective and fun way possible.

The team would like to have your feedback … and here is the place to do so.
